"Lefties are only 10-12 percent of the population, and being left-handed is statistically associated with all sorts of unusual bits of biology and behavior. As a lefty, it strikes me that it's about time someone tackle this cool subject." Robert Sapolsky , Stanford professor of biological sciences and author of A Primate's Memoir , Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers , and Monkeyluv.

The paperback edition of A Left Hand Turn
Around the World is finally in
stores! Thus far the response has been
terrific, although during a recent interview on Comcast's CN8's show “Your Morning,”
the anchor referred to me as "David
Wolfman."

The paperback edition of
ALHTAW is due out mid-November. The Japanese edition has been out for
about six week now, and so far the response has
been terrific, due in no small part to catchy
cover art.
March 25:
Just back from the
Virginia Festival of the Book. It was a good
time, and I enjoyed being on panels with
authors like Sam Apple and Kevin O’Keefe, who’ve
written cool books that, thankfully, have nothing
to do with handedness, asymmetry in the world, or
brain organization. It’s been a busy week for me
and A Left-Hand Turn Around the World and
the world of laterality studies. LiveScience.com
ran a decent piece about left-handedness, and then
a few people brought to my attention an
interesting, if not peculiar, research paper about
how a left-handed coil for snail shells may
provide a survival advantage. I’m off to China
this week, but keep an eye out for Wordstock, a
book festival in Portland April 22-23.
January 6:
I will be in
Charlottesville, Virginia in March to
speak at the Virginia Festival of the
Book. If
you're in the area, come check it out. Likewise,
April 21-23 is Wordstock, here in Portland. I will be
presenting (in some yet-to-be-determined fashion)
during this event as well.

October 3:
The dates are
set. Beginning with Eugene, Oregon October 27
and wrapping up in Boulder, Colorado
December 1, the Left Hand Turn Tour will be
stopping in 14 cities across the country.
Check the Events page for details. And if
you're anywhere near Portland October 26, join
us for the launch party at Every
Day Wine, 1520 NE Alberta Street. We're even
featuring the Sinister Hand blend from
Owen Roe Winery.
August 10:
Nikkei
publishing just bought the rights to A Left-Hand
Turn Around the World ! With a Korean edition
already in the pipeline, the Japanese edition will
help spread the gospel of Southpaw in Asia and
beyond.
July: 28:
Look for a
feature article about handedness and the brain,
written by yours truly, in a November issue of New Scientist magazine. The piece focuses on the
controversial idea that the size of a particular
brain structure has significant influences on
cognition for different groups of people, and that
those groups are predicted by strength of
handedness.
July 20:
The November
issue of Portland Monthly will include a lighter-side,
journal-esque article I wrote, about
left-handedness and left-leaning
Portland
,
Oregon
.
July 2:
Keep an eye
out for an oceanography feature story I wrote
for a winter '06 issue of Discover magazine. Although unrelated to
handedness, the subject is interesting – I
promise.
